The Rodef Shalom Biblical Botanical Garden combines beauty, education, meditation and spiritual sustenance for free admission to thousands of visitors during each summer season. The Biblical Botanical Garden is first and foremost a place where one can escape the bustling life; an oasis on Fifth Avenue.
The Biblical Botanical Garden displays more than 100 varieties of plants every season. The Garden is designed to mimic the Holy Land offering a northern mountain region; as well as a representation of the Jordan river, which meanders through the Garden from Lake Kineret to the Dead Sea, and then into a desert region. We also offer a variety of plants that offer biblical names, such as Solomon’s seal and Joseph’s coat. The result is a varied topography that offers a wide variety of plants which thrive in different growing conditions.
The Biblical Botanical Garden offers a special annual exhibit focusing on various plants and their uses in ancient life. Past exhibits have included: “The Healing Past” which includes information about the use of pharmaceuticals; “Fragrance Through the Ages”, focusing on the creation and use of perfumes; and “Beer from Ancient Israel to Our Time”.
